Why won't your fridge door stay shut?
3 common causes with simple solutions
Spoiled food, extra wear and tear, and appliance malfunction are all worst case scenario for a pesky fridge door that won't close.
So here are three simple things you can check right now to keep your food safe, and your appliance working like it should.
- Your fridge isn't level - This is often overlooked, but even the slightest imbalance can cause problems. Get a helper to lift the front of the refrigerator, and place a wood block (or similar) underneath. Turn the levelling legs until they extend enough to balance your fridge. Use a carpenters level (if available) to ensure you got it right.
- Damaged or worn gasket - This is the rubber strip that goes around the inside perimeter of your fridge and freezer door. Over time the magnetism of the gasket can lose strength, get damaged, or both - Replacement can be easy, these tricks and hints can help you have a new gasket installed in no time.
- Worn door cam. - Door cams allow the fridge door to rest in place, and assist with closing (even after a little push). Like the gasket, these cams can become damaged over time. Replacing the door cams should solve the problem! - Click here for an idea how to do that.
And there you have it! Fixing any one (or all three) of these problems will have your fridge door closing like new.
