    Appliance Tip of the Week...
Whirlpool refrigerator sensor and thermistor helps:

Try not to change a sensor without testing it first.

The tech sheet for your refrigerator should include a temperature/resistance chart for the thermistor. You can usually find the tech sheet sometimes stored behind the bottom front grill, or glued on the back of the refrigerator. Refer to this chart for the expected resistance readings for your model.

Examine the thermistor's wire harness for damage or loose connections. If the wiring harness looks okay, let's check the resistance of the thermistor using a multimeter.

    AstroAI Multimeter Tester

The thermistor WPW10383615 would need to be tested for resistance to identify if it is reading properly. The thermistor, at room temp 77 degrees F and have an ohm value of about 2.7K ohms, or at 36 degrees F (in ice water) with a value of 7964 ohms or approx 8K ohms. The meter should be set at a higher range than the highest ohm rating of the part so that would be 10,000 (10k).

The thermistor WPW10384183 are checked either at room temp 77 deg and have an ohm value about 2700 ohms or 2.7K ohms, or at 36 deg (in ice water) with a value of 7964 ohms or approx 8K ohms. The meter should be set at a higher range than the highest ohm rating of the part so that would be 10,000 ohms (10k).

The thermistor W10316760 At 50 degrees F the resistance should be 5.3K Ohms, 8.8K Ohms at 32 degrees F, and 25.9K Ohms at 4 degrees F.

    Number 13 on the breakdown

The thermistor W11438736 should check at room temp (75 deg) it should read about 2.7k ohms or 2700 ohms.

The thermistor 12002355 at 50 degrees F the resistance should read 199K ohms or 199000 ohms, 40 degrees F should read 266.8K ohms or 266800 ohms, 30 degrees F should read 343.5K ohms or 343500 ohms, 20 degrees F should read 445.8K ohms or 445800 ohms, 10 degrees F should read 616.3K ohms or 616300 ohms, 0 degrees F should read 815K ohms or 815000 ohms, and -5 degrees F should read 968K ohms or 968000 ohms.

The thermistor WP2188820 at room temp of 77 degrees the resistance should be 2.7K ohms or 2700 ohms, plus or minus 5%.

The thermistor with fan motor assembly W11087438 at room temp of 77 degrees the resistance should be 2.7K ohms or 2700 ohms. 7964 ohms or 8K ohms at 36 degrees F. 23,345 ohms or 23.3K ohms at 0 degrees F.

If the sensor checks ok, the board would be a prime suspect then. If the sensor checks ok for a freeing food issue, the air damper and/or board would be a prime suspect.

My brain is like a web browser. 50 tabs are open, half of them are frozen, I don't know where the music is coming from and a "low battery" notification just keeps popping up.
